Recognizing the potential of gravelly soils in Lognan, he gradually assembled small vineyard plots to establish the estate. From the 1960s through the 1990s, Chteau Le Pape was leased to the Perrin family, owners of the neighboring Chteau Carbonnieux. This long term arrangement influenced the estate's vineyard
